      <image:title>Inner Nature - Ephemeral Intervention</image:title>
<image:caption>For this performance piece, I projected three different endangered or threatened species that are Native to Texas onto a building in downtown Dallas. This was to show people who might not think of nature day by day to take a second glance and be curious on what the projection means. When you use the QR code it will direct you to my website that will give you more information about the three species projected. My goal is to reintroduce nature back into a space like downtown Dallas and bring these endangered species to the attention of hundreds of people. On this night of the performance my website was visited 584 times in a span of a hour and a half.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Inner Nature - Intended Obstruction</image:title>
<image:caption>Intended Obstruction is a piece that I started in July, at the Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center. It was an ongoing piece where I shifted and re-placed benches that were put all around the park. My goal was to use them to help nature and not just be an object for human use. In this piece above the benches became a natural bridge for species that needed to cross the water. Though it wasn’t my intention, nature decided otherwise.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Forest Management is a performance piece discussing the ridiculous and idiotic comments made by the United States of America’s 45th President. This piece is to show how redundant this task is and asking others to do this is just plain stupid. With this performance I hope it can spark conversation with people who agree with 45 on this subject, and make them realize how this could never be accomplished. I intend this performance to start up a discussion on how Global Warming is the real cause of the destructive wild fires occurring on the West Coast.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Inner Nature - Preparing for Lift Off</image:title>
<image:caption>Preparing for Lift Off is a piece that discusses the change in the seasons, and the migratory birds of North Texas are preparing for their move south of the equator. And as some know, light population today affects migratory birds flight patterns and can confuse and kill birds. During migration the bright lights on large buildings attract birds, in the same way bright porch lights do, and by doing that can cause fatal collisions. I hope this piece will bring attention to that issue occurring in migratory birds.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Natures Invitation is a call or plea for people to finally let nature into their everyday lives. Nature needs to be invited in and welcomed with open arms, if we as a society would embrace nature, we could start the most curtail steps in helping repair the damage we have done to nature. If we don’t welcome nature into our everyday lives we will loose nature completely.</image:caption>

Only after one month a family of rabbits called it home. Sadly after a few months after the rabbit family called it home, the park which it was located took down the piece. Which is an example of how other organisms in our space use a space for safety and protection. While we as people look down on them and destroy there homes and ecosystems.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Counter Invasive - "Please, have a seat" 2021</image:title>
<image:caption>“Please, take a seat,” is a discussion on how bird spikes are inhumane and should never be used in the urban setting. For the past few years we have experienced as a society the push to eliminate native and exotic wildlife from our urban communities. One of the ways businesses and communities are accomplishing this is with bird spikes. By pushing away our native and non-native birds and wildlife from urban settings we can expect an increase in insects and other pests with the absence of birds. I want the viewer to feel the uncomfortable feeling of being unwelcome in a place of rest, and understand the viewpoint of our native wildlife. I want this feeling of unsettledness to be installed in the viewers mind to think again when putting up bird spikes. Because these are an inhuman and destructive way to push out our native bird species when they were here long before us.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Counter Invasive - Here's the Tea. 2021</image:title>
<image:caption>“Here’s the Tea.” is a piece discussing the on-going issues in many fresh water resources across North American continent. Since the 1980’s Zebra Mussels were introduced to our fresh waters of North America, specifically the Great Lakes. And ever since then it has been a downhill battle trying to eradicate these mussels. They are destroying ecosystems and infrastructure nationwide. I hope to invoke a sense of uneasiness in this piece and want to push the narrative of, what if this happened in our homes? Would we care more as a society or will it have to directly affect us first to care. Eventually Zebra Mussels will affect us one way or the other. We need to step in and bring this to the attention of people in charge to stop it before we don’t have a chance.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Counter Invasive - Trophy of our Consequences</image:title>
<image:caption>For years Cutaneous Fibromas otherwise known as ‘‘Deer Warts” have been common through many different Cervidae species across the North American Continent. But ever since the 1980’s when harsher pesticides were introduced into crops across North America, there has been an ever-increasing spike in report cases of Deer Warts. Though a large portion of deer survive this naturally, the introduction of pesticides increasing the chance for Deer Warts to develop on the body. With that, these warts grow to an immense size and spread rapidly on the body. With this occurring more and more deer nationwide are starting to die from this infection. Cause of death by starvation, as this infection, causes blindness, and immobility to be able to eat properly. With this piece, I hope to invoke a sense of concern from the public. If pesticides can cause this infection to a deer second-hand, what other things are we being affected by when it comes to pesticides?</image:caption>

<image:title>Some Things Never Die - If only Grandpa knew</image:title>
<image:caption>If only Grandpa knew, is an installation where the life of the past and present are intertwining. There are plenty of past experiences and knowledge passed through generations of family through folklore, tall tails, and old wives tales. These tales and knowledge passed down generation by generation got Cody Norton to where he is now. Growing up in the South he learned how to hunt and process these animals, with the mastery of this skill and help from his father. Which this expertise had been passed down from his father and grandfather. To benefit the family and help bring meat home. Without Grandpa and Granny, he would have never known the tales of Buffalo Bill, obtained an interest in taxidermy, and known the exotic hunting adventures throughout Grandpa’s life. This piece is a dedication and memorialization of Ganpa and Granny, may they rest in peace knowing the generations of family tales and knowledge is still being passed down.</image:caption>

<image:title>Some Things Never Die - Post Primary: After Hours</image:title>
<image:caption>Post Primary: After Hours, is a piece discussing the revisitation of past involvements in dove hunting while growing up in the South. While growing up in a small town in Central Texas, artist Cody Norton was raised in a family heavily involved in the sport of hunting. This piece is discussing the repetition that occurs when trying to perfect the sport of dove hunting. And trying over, and over again to blend in and fit into his family complex dynamics. It felt as if for years, he would never accomplish this feat, at the expense of another being’s life. Norton is dealing with the complicated relationship involved with this sport and trying to discover his belonging to his family.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Urban Development encroaches on Native species nationwide. This piece dives into the pressure our lifestyles have on species. Especially predatory species. Hunted down for pelts and trophies throughout the United States. With no second thought on what we are doing to these species, envoke a sense of despair and entrapment. Soon, with an ever-decreasing predatory population, our ecosystems will collapse. We will see the consequences of our own actions.</image:caption>

<image:title>Some Things Never Die - Death of the Fabulous</image:title>
<image:caption>Death of the Fabulous embodies the experience of living as a queer individual in the rural South. A skinless coyote mount, covered in rhinestones, symbolizes a duality: the rhinestones radiate the courage of queerness, while the unprotected form reveals deep vulnerability. At its feet, a scattering of fur represents the shedding of one’s former self—exposing the raw truth despite the dangers it invites.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Some Things Never Die - Ethel - 2024</image:title>
<image:caption>In this piece, I delve into the nuanced intersectionality of Queer identity and rural culture, particularly focusing on the act of hunting as a space of reclamation and empowerment for LGBTQ+ individuals. Traditionally entrenched in heteronormative masculinity, Queer folks are reshaping hunting as a means of reconnecting with nature and challenging societal norms. Ethel stands as a poignant embodiment of this Queer resurgence within rural America, illustrating the potent narrative of reclaiming agency and identity in environments where conformity often prevails.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Bison Hunt - is a film documenting the journey of a hunt that I was invited to participate in at the Northern Ute Reservation. Through this invitation from collaborator and friend, Chelsea Kaiah, I was able to witness and partake in a hunt that has been occurring on this land for millennia - witnessing the inherent Queerness within this landscape. Working with Chelsea’s family, we as a collective traversed the mountainous landscape of Utah to hunt, gather, and process this bull Bison. Through this, we were able to feed ourselves and others on the reservation for months to come.</image:caption>

<image:title>Some Things Never Die - The Swing 2023,</image:title>
<image:caption>The Swing examines the lesser know people of the North American Hunting scene. As queer hunters, we witness heterosexual hunters constantly flaunt their sexuality, while we must suppress ours in these spaces. So, how would it look if we got to express ourselves in this same situation? Situated under the deer stand is a sex swing, hidden still, but more prominent in the space where hunters frequent.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This film was a Bison herd interaction I had in Eastern Kansas. Though many have told me the shire size and power these Bison possess, it had never occurred to me until seeing them in person. For the first time, I had never felt as if I fit the role of hunter, but possibly the hunted. But I had my camera to “shoot” with and a shotgun “mic” for audio, so was I actually the hunter?</image:caption>

<image:caption>Artist Cody Norton grew up in Texas hunting culture. While learning to hunt doves he would practice using clay pigeons. In this interactive piece, he wants to see how an audience reacts when being forced to take part in destructive action. While using a hammer, participants unveil the message of, “Make space for the things that are gone so they will be not forgotten.” An ever circulating emotion of joy and destruction, but not knowing the consequences. Norton hopes to give people a sense of how our actions now, can affect the future.</image:caption>

<image:caption>This piece is a self-exploration of queerness as it relates to hunting practices and the closet. How do queer people feel within spaces of hunting and country culture in the South, and where do they seem safest in these difficult and dangerous situations. Through self-representation, this space is my own safe haven, a place of rest and solitude but also having the lingering thoughts of being queer in the south; represented by the coyote. Items in the piece represent me as a queer person not only in the south but how this space can travel to where one is no matter the situation at hand.</image:caption>

<image:title>Some Things Never Die - Post Primary: After Hours</image:title>
<image:caption>Post Primary: After Hours. A piece discussing the revisitation of past involvements in dove hunting. While growing up in Central Texas, artist Cody Norton became involved in the sport of hunting. Discussing the repetition that occurs when trying to perfect the sport. And trying over, and over again to blend in and fit into his family's complex dynamics. It felt as if for years, he would never complete this feat, at the expense of another being’s life. Norton is dealing with the complicated relationship involved with this sport. And trying to discover his belonging to his family.</image:caption>

<image:title>Some Things Never Die - If only Grandpa knew</image:title>
<image:caption>If only Grandpa knew, is an installation where the life of the past and present are intertwining. There are plenty of past experiences and knowledge passed through generations of family through folklore, tall tails, and old wives’ tales. These tales and knowledge passed down generation by generation got Cody Norton to where he is now. Growing up in the South he learned how to hunt and process these animals, with the mastery of this skill and help from his father.</image:caption>

Through this, we were able to feed ourselves and others on the reservation for months to come. Link: - coming soon!</image:caption>

With the stories of Mrs. Eloise, a 101-year-old Lesbian hunter, and the imagery of Ricky and his friends on the hunt here in Colorado; I hope to showcase this niche group of LGBTQ+ people and make us known. <image:title>Film - Bison Hunt - Northern Ute Reservation</image:title>
Through this, we were able to feed ourselves and others on the reservation for months to come. Link: - https://vimeo.com/889760709?share=copy</image:caption>

      <image:title>Thesis Exhibition - The Deer Blind</image:title>
<image:caption>To myself and my family, building the deer blind together was always a valuable time for us. The deer blind has a deep and rooted history in my family and in hunting practices that have occurred for centuries worldwide. I learned how to build the deer blind using knowledge passed down through generations of Nortons. This reimagined deer blind retains the essence of its traditional construction but is unmistakably Queer in its internal conceptual transformation. It stands as a testament to the evolution of my identity and my reclamation of the hunting space. The infusion of neon orange serves as a Queer beacon, calling upon the Queer Hanky code. It casts a glow on the interior of the deer blind, transcending the deer blind’s conventional role thus Queering the space.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Thesis Exhibition - The Tree Stand - 2024</image:title>
<image:caption>During my formative years, the tree stand emerged as my preferred hunting method, serving as a conduit for self-discovery and as a catalyst for profound Queer awakening. I was the sole member of my family who ventured to the tree stand, and it became my sanctuary, a place entirely my own, divorced from the external world. In the solitude of that stand, I spent hours in contemplation, musing about life's intricate questions and, ultimately, my own identity as a Queer man. Typically concealed by the tree's branches, I have chosen to expose the tree stand, turning it into a focal point. I am sharing my narrative by revealing a secretive space with the audience, shedding light on the part of myself that I once kept hidden. Orange grease covers the entirety of the tree upon which the tree stand is perched, making the space unobtainable and serving as a barrier that prevents others below from accessing the chair above. Though I have exposed my Queerness in this way, it is still my sanctuary.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Thesis Exhibition - The Deer Feeder - 2024</image:title>
<image:caption>The deer feeder is at the heart of these two hunting structures, often leaving people pondering its purpose and significance. The feeder emerges as a focal point, poised to evoke wonder and curiosity. This device lures deer, and serves as a magnet for intrigue, asking viewers to consider how this object connects to my Queer story and my relation to hunting. Beneath the deer feeder lies a scattering of corn, a familiar tactic used to attract deer. This deliberate placement invites visitors to examine the corn strewn across the concrete floor. This act calls forth memories of the feeding of deer practiced year-round in my familial hunting grounds. By initiating this action in the museum, the deer feeder initiates the ritual of luring, symbolizing the continuity of hunting practices across different spaces and contexts. The feeder, emanating neon orange, assumes a profound significance as it symbolizes Queerness within the realm of hunting. This vibrant hue serves as a signal that draws attention to the intersection of Queer identity and the hunting landscape encapsulated within the confines of the museum space. The illuminating glow from the feeder's interior symbolizes the anticipation and promise inherent with Queerness in hunting. It is a beacon, gesturing to what lies ahead in the field—a realm where nature's unpredictability converges with human emotion and influence.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Title: This Quiet Carries Me - 2025 There’s a stillness in rural life that can feel both sheltering and suffocating. For anyone who’s ever walked the backroads of themselves, wondering if they’re alone—you’re not. Not really.</image:caption>
