The Lesser Prairie Chicken is a part of the Grouse Family. They historically roam the Great Plains down to the Texas Coast. Roaming in the millions nearly a century ago, today due to Urbanization and Agriculture these numbers have dwindled to only 30,000. With the destruction of the prairies across the nation, if more prairie is lost we will loose the organism residing there, including the Lesser Prairie Chicken.

The Golden Cheeked Warbler is an endangered species of Central Texas. The location of the Golden Cheeked Warbler is very important as it is the only bird species in the state of Texas that is confined to Central Texas for breeding. HOuston toad
status: Endangered
The Houston Toad is an amphibian located in East and parts of Central Texas. This toad is the first line of defense when it comes to keeping insect populations down in the native ecosystem it lives in. Today this is one of the most endangered amphibians in the world with only about 3000 left in nature.
